Yesterday at 12 noon while driving to work, I had my first car accident since I began driving 7 years ago at 22. It is not easy to stay accident free in Nwe York City driving but while standing sill in the extreme left lane of the Grand Central Parking with other traffic, I hear a car's brakes screeching, smoke and I managed to turn my car into the guard rail as to avoid hitting the car ahead of me that was about 5 feet away. It sounded like an explosion but none the less, I was taken to the hospital and spent the next 9 hours be evaluated. I have soft tissue injury lots of pain and bruises but I will be okay. I could not make it to where the car was towed to but the shop sent me about 10 pictures showing me the damage which consists of rear and front bumpers, trunk and left quater panel. Not bad considering it sounded much worse. My issue is that the the other driver was insured by GEICO, she admitted to the Police that she was not paying attention and it is in the accident report and also called her GEICo agent and stated it was her fault. The collison place tells me that I do not even have to report it to my insurer as GEICO will pick up the entire bill to include a car rental until my car is fixed in about a week. I have full coverage/collison and a 500 deduct on my present policy......Does this sound right, am I breaking any laws here which I don't want too.
This is confusing to me or should I just call me insurer and let things fall unders its natural progression.
