From a MA to Med Supp Plan

No, I believe she would not qualify for GI. Here is info from the AARP Med Supp handbook on GI events:

Qualifying Event #7 - On first enrolling in Medicare Part A at age 65, applicants enrolled in a MA or PACE plan, then dropped that plan within two years.

I have a client who is 68 and went with a MA plan 6 months ago when she enrolled in Medicare Part B. She is now considering a Med Sup plan. Because she's been with an MA plan for less than 12 months, will she be entitled to GI for a Med Supp?

I read a post stating this, but it referred to an individual turning 65 and new to Medicare. Just want to make sure the same would apply to someone over 65 but new to Part B as well.

Pat, to be perfectly honest, if you don't know the circumstances where someone is "GI" (and this ain't one of 'em), you should do some additional studying before you foist your ignorance on some unsuspecting potential client.

You could harm them - and their finances - seriously.

Moonlight - That is exactly what I am doing - studying. I received an email inquiry and wanted to post the question here while I did my research. I understand what you are saying, however your choice of words in delivering your message is quite discouraging to new agents hoping to learn on this forum.

If you're that easily discouraged, you ought to get out of the business now. Today.

Your feelings got hurt? How do you think your "client" would have felt if they were naked after disenrolling from their MA plan because you advised them that they had a "guaranteed issue" Medicare supplement enrollment opportunity? Think their feelings would have been hurt?

I am all about one thing: raising the woeful level of professionalism in this business. Our reputation sucks - well deservedly!

Your question was really quite basic. How much studying of Medicare, Medicare supplements and Medicare Advantage plans have you done on your own? Actually read Medicare & You? Spent a couple of bucks to educate yourself at www.namsa.us? Reviewed www.medicare.gov?

If you think you can rely on the "advice" on this forum, let me give you a clue: 95% of the people on this forum are worthless, broke, loser "wannabees".

Is that what you want to rely upon to educate yourself and your prospective "clients"?
