Fuming Mad

This morning, I pulled my Texas insurance license to make sure it has the life & health designation on it before I start selling these. And guess what, it does not! Apparently, the company I am working with (Progressive) only transferred my P&C and didn't care to transfer my life & health to the state of Texas! :1arghh:I paid for and took the life & health exam in another state in 2007 then I moved to Texas and got hired at Progressive Insurance in Austin in 2008. So I called Texas DOI and they advised I need to pay and retake this exam in Texas! I guess I should blame myself here too since I failed to check and make sure I have my life & health transferred.

Thanks Progressive! This tells me how much you care about your employees and their career advancement. You gave me another reason to look elsewhere to enrich my carrier instead of filling your pockets.

P.S.: Any of you community members here who reside in Texas (Austin area) who can recommend a company where I can retake my pre-licensing courses for life & health? I don't think I'll pass the exam without retaking these courses again. After all, I took these courses in 2007 and never practiced in life & health.

Why would Progressive care about your life and health license? Did they say they would transfer this? As far as I know, they don't have a need for it.

Would it not make sense for a company to have highly educated employees who are knowledgeable and resourceful in all facets of insurance? They did mention that my license would be transferred to Texas when I first got hired and that they would take care of the fees.

DJS is correct. Progressive has no need for your license in L/H to be transferred. They are a shrewd business and will not spend money on things that will not benefit THEM. It is unfortunate that some intern in HR told you this but these things happen. I'm licensed in TX and the life companies I am appointed with definitely don't care about my Property/Casualty status.

Good Luck

It behooves all of us to realize that no one cares about our licenses more than we do. And that we should keep on top of items like renewal dates, CE requirements, address changes etc ourselves.

Hi Gulliver,

Can you recommend any good licensing school in Texas where I can take pre-licensing courses? I also have life & health materials (the book/test prep) from my previous state and I'm just wondering if I just review these and take the exam, or life & health tests differ from state to state?

Have you checked with the satate you were initially licensed in? You may be able to pay a fee and have them reinstated there and then all you'd have to do is get a non-res (I think).

It may be too late, but it's worth a call to the previous states Insurance Commissioners office. Explain what happened and see if they can do anything. The worst they can say is no.

I had something similar happen with my Series 65 license. I changed broker dealers and they never updated my 65 when I transferred. I found out that this happened about 7 months after they had "expired". I contacted the state department that handles this registration and explained what happened and they reinstated the license for me.

Good luck.

Thanks a lot. I am not sure if the state will do this since it's been a little over a year since it expired.
