Gerber Med Supp Underwriting Issues

I thought I would give a heads up...

I have now had 2 Med Supp applications denied by Gerber. When asked why they were denied, they only say "Due to responses in phone interview". When I questioned both applicants, they said they answered "no" to all question in phone interview. One applicant said the underwriter kept asking a bunch of questions about his diabetes. He has diabetes which he controls with Glyberide. No other complications or health conditions. The other client also has Glyberide controlled diabetes with no other complications.

From the outside looking in, it appears to me that Gerber is denying anyone with Diabetes even though in many cases their underwriting guidelines indicate they should be accepting them.

Has anyone else encountered these types of problems with Gerber (or MoO)?

With either of them Diabetes + anything = decline. I normally go with a different carrier if they have diabetes at all.

They're also getting a flood of apps right now, UW is slow, and they might be tightening up a little on borderline medical cases to maximize profits.

Loyal American is easier UW for diabetes, rates are a little higher, or UNL or Admiral have basically same UW as Gerber but obviously a different UW department.

I had Gerber deny a client and then the next day they decided that they would issue the policy. You can speak to the underwriter and find out if they'll make an exception. Let them know how long the client has been on the medication...hopefully it's been over 2 years and hopefully the milligrams are a low dosage...if you bring up those factors it can help in getting the clients policy issued
