Just post the question without using the url. Describe or spell the site. We'll figure out what site you are referring to.

We're smart. Sometimes.

WebFavre was not used in this post
WebChecker was used in this post

Hello Everyone,

I have been lurking this forum for the last few days. I must admit this forum has blown my mind with its wealth of knowledge in regards to insurance. I have learnt so much in the last few days my mind is numb. All I can say is WOW and thank you.
Before I get to my question I would like to give you guys a little background info about myself. I live in the state of Maryland and I am new to life insurance , I have not even had my life insurance License for a year (renewal at the end of this year). I was introduce to life insurance by a MLM (network marketing ) company, who seems as if there only goal and like 75% of training is centered around recruiting. There mantra is recruit, recruit and recruit. There is no real in-depth product training (I mean thorough training). I have learnt more from this board in the last few days than I have learnt in almost a year with them. Now don't get me wrong , I can understand the value of their system ( to a certain extent). There system is centered around increasing one center of influence by recruiting others to the(there) business. The new recruit who comes into the business would have to give up between 3 and 6 sales (called training sales) and recruit 3 or more people to the business before he or she is eligible to start receiving commissions . The reason given is because the new recruit .
1) Does not have a license
2) Need training on the system
3) Have to earn their dews .

This is and can be a very powerful system ( from my limited knowledge). Alot of the issues of marketing, advertising, prospect list, etc. That I have seen on this board is replace by one issue, recruiting. If a person would recruit just 3 or 4 people a month that could lead to between 3 to 12 plus sales in a month. I would say almost 70% (if not more) of these sales come from internal consumption ( you can't sell a product you don't own). Plus there recruiting tactics seems a little suspect.

Which leads me to my problem ( and question) since I have been exposed to life insurance I am thinking about making this my full time job . Unfortunately it seems as if the only companies that are actively looking for new people without any experience in my area (MD, DC, and VA) are MLM companies.

Here are my questions. Please excuse my vernacular, my knowledge of the business side of life insurance etc, is elementary.

1) Are there any companies, mentors, etc that does business in the state of MD, DC, and VA, willing to hire a newbe?
1a) I would be looking for a company in which my commission etc, is not based on recruiting and is fair.
2a) Non captive agreement. I would like the ability to be appointed to as many companies as I desire. From my research of various life insurance companies. It seems as if some life Insures are good in something's and not so good in others. I would like the ability to offer my clients the best product from the best insures.

3a) A mentor who cares more about his/her clients more than the commission, who is honest and has integrity (this is one of the most important things I am looking for) ,who is willing to mentor me.

4a) If no one knows of a specific company or Mentors in my area. How would someone go about finding one themselves? What kind of words would I put into a search engine etc?

2) Is it possible to be appointed with various life insurance companies without being affiliated with any company? In other words if the only companies that will accept a newbie are MLM companies is it possible to go out on my own? Get my own appointments, my own E@O and negotiate my own contracts, etc.

2a) How would I go about doing this? What things would I need to consider, etc?

3) If all else fails and there is no answer to 1 and 2 above ( I have to stay within the confines of MLM) , because I do not have any experience or sales numbers to back me up. What would you guys suggest for me to do then?
3a) Stay with the MLM company to build my experience sales number etc?

Thank you for taken the time out to answer my questions. If my questions seems redundant (has been ask before). Please point me in the direction of my answer. Again thanks

As you can see, there is no URL in my post. On second thought, I am not even sure why I could not post that on it on topic, but it let me post it as a response? I cant figure out what I am doing wrong.

Thanks

I'm not sure why it thinks your post titles are URLs. The good thing is that "Getting Frustrated" in your current title will attract a lot of people. Hopefully, someone will read this and help you.

I was trained by one of the big companies I mentioned and I never regretted it. That is an option you should consider.

The MLM companies actively recruit new people. Other companies tend to be a bit more passive about it. You have to go to them in some cases. This isn't a problem, you just look up a district office and call. They will find a way to get you in for an interview. At least in most areas they don't have a problem with to many agents out on the streets.

If you want to focus on life, Chumps is right, call Prudential, New York Life or Snoopy (err, I mean MetLife) and see what they have to offer. Doesn't cost more than a few phone calls.

All of the companies all of the time will be glad to take on a licensed agent that can sell or has the tools to learn.

They are absolutely correct, there are plenty of quality companies that would be glad to bring on a promising recruit. However, they are more passive in looking for you. Some others worth looking at are MassMutual, Northwestern Mutual, and Guardian. Mutual of Omaha can also be a good fit. Additionally, don't overlook talking to P&C agents about doing their life and health if they do not already have a specialist. Odds are they have a large book of business that they have not even talked about life and health to, plenty of low-hanging fruit. The only downside is that since they are bringing you in to work those fields, they may or may not have knowledge in those areas for you to rely upon.

That said, there are many great people on this forum that will answer any question, no matter how silly, as long as it is intelligently asked. There may be some humor at your expense, but being ridiculed here vastly beats making a fool of yourself in front of a prospect.

The way to find these people is go to their websites. Complete the career information stuff and they will contact you.
