Controlling all search means controlling...well, everything. It means the ability to control information - especially which information can be seen and which information gets banished to page 246 of any search.
It means the power to make or break any online business. Piss Google off and watch your ranking go from 1st page to Tibet.
This is all very dangerous since I don't think any of it is "sue-able." If you held 1st page and all of a sudden Google determines that you're no longer 1st page worthy that's up to them.
Any company that controls information will control the future.

I wonder how Google can be forced to give up some of its market share if they are proven to be a monopoly. You can't force people to use Ask.com (formerly AskJeeves.com) if they prefer Google.
I actually preferred dogpile.com until I started doing SEO and needed the Google toolbar to determine page rank. You need a microscope to see their market share today.

True. This is not a case like Ma Bell back in the day when competition basically didn't exist. Google has many competitors but has a far superior search engine.
