The annointed one (I love that phrase), now has no excuse that he didn't know agents are being put out of business, and adding to that 9.8% unemployment...........

This week, President Obama and DHHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius met with 24 state governors about health reform implementation in the states. Displeasure with the MLR rule was brought up by the governors with the President directly, with the grassroots concerns of the agent and broker community specifically being cited as problematic. Secretary Sebelius attempted to quell the governors' questions by promising to continue to address agent and broker commissions through the joint DHHS and NAIC task force, which will meet again via teleconference next week.

Wat do dis meen ...?

It means nothing. The carriers have lowered the commissions and there is nothing that will cause them to increase.

ObamaCare can be repealed in its entirety and we'd still be screwed.

You are SO negative, why can't you be positive?

Many health insurance agents will be able to join their customers in Social Security Office, waiting in line for Food Stamps! :D

Not so my learned friend.
They will increase their commissions in a second if they think it means more sales.
Remember Celtic was at 10 and then 20 (when they couldn't compete) and then with MLR went to 10 again.
I and 3 other agents were told by a United "mgr." that they would renew the commissions if and when MLR was repealed. "But don't hold your breath." It's not impossible.

Just got the commissions for Anthem in CA. The levels only confirmed my decision to get the hell out of health insurance after this year.

Haven't written an IFP plan in several months and have no desire to even quote anyone in the future.

Who want's my referrals? Luke?

Rick

Even though home offices are mostly staffed with morons at the exec level, they do understand production and bottom line. When sales drop off, and they will, and customer service issues tick upward, and they will, the carriers will figure out a way to invite agents back to the table.

for once I agree with Rick.... thats a first.... yep, there aint no going back on commissions... greed is good and the ins companies will milk it for all its worth... the big commissions are toast... and again, like little Rickey I am doing other things... problem though, page one position 1-3 for 20 major search terms.. just now, as we write, sold a 523$ uhc deal and the client has yet to speak with me. funny thing is, they for once choose the correct plan, most buy saver plans when i dont speak with them

Yep.
I mean it was 20 / 5 for as long as I have been in it.
Where did those numbers come from?
Like Lucy said, they are in for some dandy service issues and a loss in sales.
Nothing is etched in granite ... especially in this economy. Not a thing.
