Health Reform Who Stands to Make Money?

Hey with the new reforms coming wouldn't it be good for those who sell health insurance as it gives them more options to sell and it makes clients legally responsible to purchase something...it would be like care insurance or am I wrong?

The only ones I see who will benefit are those who work for the federal government. With 111 new gov't bureaucracies to oversee health insurance and health care, expect a lot of resume's to be filed with the feds.

Carriers think they are going to win, but not necessarily so. Claims admin will go up due to more people covered (including under a public option) and more nuisance claims for preventive care. But Congress seems bent on dictating both the benefit levels and premium rates. If they are successful the carriers will find themselves squeezed to the point of walking away. Instead of more competition, this plan will create less competition just as it has in the handful of GI states.

The result will be fewer choices, higher prices and higher premiums. I don't see any winners in that scenario.

To Somarco and others (not a sarcastic question): Do you think even one high ranking government official ever reads this forum and the exchange of ideas presented here? If only they did, would it make a difference? For example, your GI state argument above makes 100% sense and is backed with logic. Is there evidence than ANYBODY in D.C. reads the forum?

I understand Homeland Security, the FBI and IRS read this forum religiously . . .

Congress is made up of egotistical lawmakers, each controlling their own little fiefdoms. Almost none of them have ever had a real job or run a business. They have no idea of the impact their legislation has on industry nor do they care.

Our tax code and business regulations discourage foreign investment and causes more jobs to go overseas. I did hear that they are considering a repeal of SarbOx which will delight most everyone except accountants who are making a decent income off the compliance rules.

Every time the govt gets involved at the federal or state level the cost of business goes up and that is passed on to consumers in the form of hidden taxes. As long as DC is able to print as much money as they need I don't see an end to this nonsense.

This will shake out in one of two ways. "Nationalized" health care will mean all of us will be recruited to work for the state (sounds like Germany of the late 30's) and enroll the populace. More likely scenario will be the government will farm-out the agent duties to give the allusion of cost control. This is somewhat the situation with Medicare Advantage right now. Either way is unstable...

The national insurance carriers could gain a lot.

Look there is only a handful of carriers that could admin the Gov plan. Anthem, Cigna, & UHC would be the front runners.

Think about it
They could admin these plans without taking any risk.$$$$$$$

I know for a fact that a large publicly traded health insurance company has investigated becoming a Non profit. Why would they do that?

I expect carriers to spin off non profit divisions by 2013.
