After lurking around the forum for a few days, I'd like to thank all of you for your hand in building this incredible treasure trove of knowledge. Right now I'm still studying for my Life and Health licenses here in rural VA. I expect to take the exam in a week or so.
When I first decided get licensed, I was looking at NAA (Hey! Give me a break, this is all new to me... okay? :-) For some reason I decided to research them a little more and that is how I wound up here. After poking around a few days, I'm leaning towards focusing on the FE field. I like the idea of concentrating on one product category. I like the demographics because I can identify with this group and I like this category.
Some background on me, I consider myself mostly a sales and marketing guy with background in technology. I spent the last several years working from home as a copywriter/Internet marketer. So why the change? For one thing we moved here from MD about 18 months ago to be closer to my in-laws -- as crazy as that sounds. We were down here visiting and we realized we needed to be here. Last March my father-in-law collapsed. He ended up living with us (along with my mother-in-law) for the last 6 months of his life until passing last month. It was the right thing. Meanwhile, I need to work. I need an income that is more stable than copywriting. And I need a change. I hate to say it but part of the reason I'm doing this is because my choices are limited. On the other hand, I'm long past the point in my life where I'm willing to do anything (as long as it is moral and legal) to make a living. Thus I think this might be a good fit for my abilities and skills.
Thanks to many of you in this forum, I'm beginning to see over the rose-colored glasses and understand the reality of what it's going to take to succeed in this business. That said I don't expect to post much in this forum for a couple of reasons. For one, this may be hard to believe, but I tend to get a bit long-winded. No really. It often takes a LOT of time for me to submit one post. I need to stay on task and and limit distractions. The other reason is, at least for now, I think I have a lot to learn before I can contribute anything of value. Even the questions I have are likely to have been answered again and again.
Thanks again for this resource.
