Hello and Thank You

I agree with you Phil about the value of stepping out of the forum and into the real world.

Long ago and far away I started in a career I hated almost from day one. Near the end of a particularly frustrating day, the old fellow I was attending looked at me and said "Don't worry about making mistakes -- if you haven't made any today it's because you haven't done anything worth a hoot." Needless to say I felt better.

Markador, one thing I did pick up from this forum was the advice to choose one specialty and focus on becoming and expert there.

I like FE for a lot of reasons but it's not the end all, be all. For me, I can identify with my prospective clients and offer them a product that they really need. I'd be interested to know what attracted you to this niche.

When I started in the business 20 years ago working at a relatives multi-line (sell auto , home life, health, business etc) agency I took his advice and enrolled in the "Personal Life Insurance Course" described below. The class met weekly and did one chapter at a time/week. The class assignments were what you need to be doing during the week to be successful selling life insurance. For example, one chapter focused on "mortgage life" and the assignment was to go back 25 folks we sold a home insurance policy to in the past year and try and meet with them to discuss their mortgage life needs. At the end of the week we'd track our results and share/brainstorm with the class and teacher on how to do better. I still break out the book every now and then (the chapter on delivering rated cases is beautiful). I require all of my employees at my agency to take the "Personal Insurance Course". FYI-you can do the course on line now and sit for a proctored exam. Most go on to get the LUTCF designation. Good luck in your new venture!

"Life Underwriter Training Council Fellow (LUTCF) designation can be earned by completing six courses from the American College. This designation focuses on essential life insurance product knowledge with basic planning concepts so that the LUTCF is aided in boosting their sales production".
