I moved from Phoenix to southeastern VA in 1990, which is when I first got into this business. MetLife sent me to agent's training for 2 weeks in July of that year. Their training facility was in Tampa. The July heat & humidity in Tampa was definitely the most oppressive I had ever experienced! The temps & humidity are similar where I live in TX now. Difference is, in Phoenix, once it hits 100 (usually April or May), it stays hot with no relief for about six months! Here in TX, a rainstorm can cool everything down by 10-20 degrees in a single afternoon, so we get some respite. Does Florida experience some "relief days" like that during the summer?
I'm surprised you didn't experience in Tampa. Afternoon showers are quite normal in Florida. Although it doesn't last long and the humidity is only worse afterwards.
I remember it from all the trips to visit friends in the Tampa/St. Pete area as well as some trips to Orlando.
Here in Memphis is more like Texas. A real thunderstorm moves through and really drops the temperature for a while. In Florida it seemed like it was all over in 15 minutes and then the oven was set to "steam".
