I'm so happy I found this forum! I'm in somewhat of a predicament, and I have no one to talk to (who are in the industry) other than you wonderful people Id appreciate it if you could take the time to read this and offer any advice for my situation.
I'm a newly licensed agent after getting hired by a private company who is contracted with American Senior Benefits. I wasn't in the insurance industry before this, so I'm fresh meat so to speak. I came here because I like finance, people, and helping others.
I started with the company who hired me and attended their "training" (which was literally abysmal—this is not an exaggeration either). After the "training" I was now "on my own". It was after the first two appointments on my own, that I realized I knew nothing at all. I took the next month off to train myself before I ever had another meeting with a prospect.
Now I'm back to meeting with prospects, except I have none, so I asked my upline for help. "Make more calls". Ok, I will. I've been making hundreds of calls a day which are mostly disconnects and no answers. I did get two appointments after ~130 calls the other day, so that's nice. I'm still waiting on a lead order to come in (that I paid for with my own money). I asked my company if they help with lead cost, and they don't, they just give numbers to dial.
I was at an appointment last week, and had a quick question for a MA plan enrollment. Not a single person on my "team" responded until about 2 hours later at the earliest. Yeah, that REALLY helps me out when I'm with a client.
I'm at a loss because I have no idea what to do. I'm not happy, I feel alone. I found out my commissions are a good amount less because I'm a captive agent (just learned that term a week ago). I had to fully train myself, I basically have no support, no leads, and thousands of numbers to dial every week.
I'm now asking myself why I'm with a company who doesn't provide me with anything whatsoever, and for that luxury, I give them part of my commissions? Am at least IN the ballpark with this? Or am I completely out of the park and don't know what I'm talking about?
Where do I go from here? I guess my only options are stay and suck it up, leave and hopefully find a better company, or become independent (which I'm honestly afraid to do). What would you do, knowing what you know and after reading this?
Any advice is greatly appreciated, and thanks for listening!
