Here's an analogy. When I used to waterfowl hunt I started off with cheap plastic calls. Once I became familiar with those I moved up to the top end calls which are very expensive. At that point I knew how to use them effectively.

I've seen guys new to waterfowling show up with $500 worth of calls around their neck, but didn't have a clue what to do with them.

Had one of those last week. The HR girl from one of my worksite accounts called me. Her and her husband are building a house. Bank said he needs $150k in life insurance. She called me, done deal. I definitely welcome more of those to come along.

Sweet! You became their go to guy. I do a lot of work on the front end to be just that.

I always try to get permission to let the contingent benes who to call if they both die. Gets them talking about me and life insurance. I get many request for quotes that way. That and the Columbo "oh by the way" get me a lot of request.

I use the "Oh by the way..." or the "Uh , did I mention..." many time at the end of a policy service call to mention I have have some new plans for people with pre-existing conditions and also some great child and grand child plans. Maybe I will mention Cancer, Diabetes, HBP or parent plans, just depends on the client.

Get in front of the client and explain his options and do a "choice":

Quite obviously, he needs permanent coverage of some description, show him options and let him decide.
