Help Understanding Coverage

Hello,

My name is John and I currently have Geico for my car, a 2003 Jeep Liberty. Just use the car for commuting, mostly and take care of the care by myself as much as I can.

I was reviewing my policy today I can honestly can't understand the options I have or I should have with this car. Currently I have the following coverage:

Bodily Injury Liability Current Limit: $20,000/$40,000

Property Damage Liability Current Limit: $15,000

Personal Injury Protection-Insured Current: Insured Deductible: $1,000 Ded.

Additional Personal Injury Protection-Insured Current: Not Carried Not Carried Medical Payments Current: Not Carried

Uninsured Motorist Bodily Injury-Nonstacked Current: Nonstacked Limit: $20,000/$40,000

Not sure if this options make sense, though. I'm living in Florida and there are a lot of older people around here doing some crazy things (even one time I saw an old guy driving a car with binoculars looking at the street name from his car, not sure if it was a prank or I wanted to believe it was a prank but I saw it).

I'm not concerned of getting any money if the car get's totaled but I don't want to face any huge legal fees if I'm involved in an accident.

Any help to match my needs with my options will be highly appreciated.

Thank you
John.

Why don't you call GEICO and ask them to explain it since they sold it to you?

A better suggestion would be to find a local agent who can check rates with multiple companies and allow them to compete for your business. They will, during the process, explain your coverage options. They may even be able to save you some money. When buying insurance you need to consider who will be there to help you when you need it as much as price. And chances are you're not really saving any money anyway.

I am wondering Why you chose to ask this because they SHOULD of explained the coverage's that you purchased to you.. Each state has different minimum Liability limits from a glance at what you posted it looks like you have your state minimum. I would call them and have them explain your coverage or better yet call a local agent in many cases they can beat the rate and with better coverage and also They will explain your coverage to you :)

You should call Geico right now and get at least 100/300/100 with matching ui/um. Do that now. Then you should call a local agent and have them explain the coverages. You might pay a little more with the carriers they offer, but it's much better to be taken care of than pay a few bucks more for insurance.

Agree 100% with Josh.

You need an agent that can help you make the right choices vs. just giving you a price quote or "minimum coverage required by law."

Thank you for coming online here to find out more info. Folks, if there is a FL agent on here, I encourage you to PM John & help him out!

John, you are on the right track with your thinking. The problem as you found out: GEICO quotes you a price but is no help in guiding you to make good choices with your insurance dollars.

Best of luck.

Bob

You have a fairly standard low-end liability policy through Geico, where your insurance only kicks in if you were to be found liable in an accident. If someone was to steal, vandalize, or perform a hit and run, you would be out of luck. You do have a uninsured motorist caveat in your policy which gives you some protection, but your more or less have a bare bones liability insurance policy, which makes sense with an 03 Jeep liberty worth no more than $5,000.

As said before, this is a bare bones policy. If you were to total/damage your car today, would you have the money to either get a new car or pay out of pocket repairs? If not - you may want to talk to your agent about getting comp/collision coverage.
