HHS Exchanges May Trim Use of Snail Mail

Managers of the public exchanges run by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) are trying to cut down on use of traditional mail. HHS wants to keep consumers and their assisters, including agents and brokers, from reporting changes that might affect the consumers' eligibility for health benefits programs through the mail.

Consumers and their helpers would have to report any changes that could affect eligibility through the Web, through calls to telephone call centers, or through in-person interactions with "navigators, certified application counselors and other in-person assistance personnel."

The mail is not a practical method for getting change information because automated systems or live humans will need to interact with the consumers to ask follow-up questions, officials say.

I am conflicted as the post office is not the most efficient added that you need another government worker to move said piece of paper into the system. But I like having my paper copy of transactions and so far the website has been less than spectacular case in point the submission of extra documentation listed as submitted for months but never verified.

It is so funny when one government department, who had history's most epic fail of the launch of a website, is claiming that another government department (the USPO) is inefficient.

Adding injury to insult, the Exchange doesn't show receipt of all those documents that have been uploaded already, verifying income, immigration status, etc. Across the nation, they are asking for the same documents AGAIN, even though the website clearly confirms that the documents have been submitted. And they say the USPO is inefficient?

Right Ann! Who needs the Supreme Court or Republicans to unravel ObamaCare. It seems that "Friendly Fire" between government agencies and complex rules is doing the job.

Also, HHS says the majority of people aren't responding to the snail-mail notices requesting additional information, but also admitted that the systems for processing and confirming much of what they receive hasn't been built yet.

No wonder Democrat candidates are pooping their drawers from anxiety over the upcoming elections.

Only a Government agency with a monopoly could think of acting this way.....It's the consumers fault your honor they are not responding to our request for additional info.....CMS isn't it true that your systems to confirm they are or are not responding have not even been built yet? Yes your honor that us true but but but but.....

You can not make this stuff up, talk about material for comedians.
