HHS Seeks Extension Beyond 12/23 for Jan 1st Coverage, And...

Government Takeover: White House Forces Obamacare Insurers To Cover Unpaid Patients At A Loss - Forbes

"What's wrong with 'urging' insurers to offer free care?" you might ask. "That's not the same as forcing them to offer free care." Except that the government is using the full force of its regulatory powers, under Obamacare, to threaten insurers if they don't comply. All you have to do is read the menacing language in the new regulations that HHS published this week, in which HHS says it may throw otherwise qualified health plans off of the exchanges next year if they don't comply with the government's "requests."

The chaos and recriminations have made insurers like UnitedHealth, who have largely stayed out of the exchanges, look smart.

Roadrunner, the "responsible" people are the ones getting hosed. If you've been a good doobie, always had your own insurance, and now don't qualify for subsidies, you are being forced to pay increased rates for insurance that covers a myriad of things you don't want, so that you can subsidize others who never intended to carry insurance in the first place. Nice . . . . .

None of this is fair really. I have only a small group who are happy about the insurance plans being offered, and they are the sickest of the sick, who were actually handing over about $1000 or more a month in premiums to state high risk pools. To them a $500/mo policy seems like a great deal even with no subsidy. So . . . there goes the risk pool . . . .can't wait to see what rates will look like in 2014.

Thanks for the link, that article is spot on and 100% accurate.

Insurance company offers to extend your contract cancelled under PPACA.
You accept.
Your hassle of complying, stress of dealing with being lied to by your president elect multiple times, scramble to obtain coverage, issues with coverage, loss of personal data through the hacked marketplace, and, of course, your time wasted unnecessarily count as consideration.

No one said consideration has to mean dollars and cents.

Consideration.

1) payment or money. 2) a vital element in the law of contracts, consideration is a benefit which must be bargained for between the parties, and is the essential reason for a party entering into a contract. Consideration must be of value (at least to the parties), and is exchanged for the performance or promise of performance by the other party (such performance itself is consideration).

*I forgot my sarcasm mark*

On a serious note, this is a contractual nightmare. Santa and his elves don't go through this much red tape wrapping all those presents.

The Administration is now in FULL panic mode. Only 10% of the 365,000 nationwide ObamaCare enrollees have actually paid their premiums.

The hastily written rule that HHS implemented into law over this past weekend, coerces insurers to cover every person who has enrolled by this coming Monday December 23rd with a January 1st effective date..even if they haven't paid for the coverage.

Adding coercion to their "requests", the new rule lets insurers know that they may have their health plans removed from the Exchange(s) prior to the next Open Enrollment if they don't comply with these HHS "requests".

After enduring all this HHS heavy handedness, I don't think any of them would lose any sleep at all if they're removed from the Exchanges! Anyway, here's the latest on where ObamaCare stands as of today. It aint pritty.

This year, Health Insurance carriers hate deadline extensions more than ever. Due to tighter margins, and even flat out losses, anything that adds to Admin cost is another dagger to the heart.

If the 12/15/2015 deadline for 1/1/2016 coverage is extended by CMS, insurers will need to extend their premium payment deadline accordingly. Or, keep the 1/1/2016 deadline for premium receipt, but pay employees more money to work harder longer hours over the next 3 weeks.
