Higher Beer Taxes to Fund Health Ins.

Drinking a few or a lot of cold brews, may cost a little more...soon. It's going to a good cause, so drink up. It'll help insure the uninsured.

That's the final straw. Time to fall on the sword.

As my hero says, "I don't always drink beer, but when I do...I prefer Dos Equis."

Stay thirsty my friends.

I guess in some areas Maine can still lead the Nation...The Maine Legislature passed a tax increase on beer, wine and soda products last year to help fund the failed Dirigo program..There was enough uproar to overturn them in a Peoples Veto so they went back to taxing health insurance premiums and benefits to fund a program for people to get health insurance...I always loved the logic behind this..Health insurance is too costly so people can't afford it so offer Dirigo and Fund it by making the people who have health insurance pay even more for no added benefit...I love Big Bother Maine.

Just as the craft beer industry finally gets things on the real upswing, good old government comes along to knock them right back down.....good stuff.

I would propose a tax on latte's and garlic presses so that the dems would have to pay more.

Nobody that knows anything about cooking would be caught dead using a garlic press.

You can either a) mince it very fine (I mean really, how tough is that?), or b) slice it very thin with a razor blade so it melts as Paul Sorvino did in Goodfellas.

I have it on good authority that beer will not be taxed anything additional. Obama himself said that if you make less than $250K you will not pay 1 dime more in taxes. Since people who make less than this drink beer, it is impossible to raise taxes on beer.

Or maybe, he truly meant the one dime thing. Multiple dollars are not one dime, right ;(

How soon you forget.

Tax on cigs increased $0.61 per pack on April 1 to fund SCHIP. Now it seems they are wanting to double dip to fund health insurance for the poor.

Didn't forget, but I don't smoke so it didn't make me pay one more dime.
