Homeowners Carrier Needed

I'm an independent agent in TN. I currently write through Travelers and Safeco. Safeco's rates are outrageous, and Travelers has put a stop to new business in our cluster until their rate increase takes effect. I've ran some sample rates through Encompass, Met, and Main Street but their rates are outrageous too. Most of the companies like Nationwide, Allstate, Grange, and AutoOwners are already in established agencies in our small town. Is anybody having any success with other carriers (national or regional) that are looking to appoint new agents and have decent home/auto rates?

One of the first things I do when researching potential carriers is checking with AM Best member center($145/year membership) to see who has a market presence, their financials and rate history. Looking primarily for regional carriers and then we look at national carriers after we've narrowed down who the players are. Then, of course, you have the job of selling yourself to them.

We've had Erie Insurance as our lead carrier since 1986 and they've always been competitive. They're in TN...probably be worth a phone call.
