How Can Insured Cancel Home Owners Insurance?

Former agent is not playing nice, BUT if a backdate cancellation is being requested, most companies need a dec page to go beyond 7 days.

If a customer doesn't send something on the day of the cancellation, I personally require a dec page as a CYA in case my agency gets audited by home office or by the state insurance dept.

I don't understand why people have to do this. If they put as much effort into generating new business as being difficult about cancellations then their lives would be easier. Hope they put a stop pay on their accounts if there was a direct debit.

what fex said, i've dealt with agents who wont give me their fax or claim they never received it hoping to keep the client....

never understood this reasoning, unpaid policies will be canceled anyways.

when i cant get through to someone i direct fax a 35 to carrier.

google the agent and get the fax number from their website.

I am amazed at how difficult some agents are making this. fax directly to the company, make a list of the companies fax numbers so you have it next week.

Your client needs to read the cancellation and renewal portion of their homeowner's policy. To my understanding, if a client does not want to renew at the renewal time, they can cancel their policy. You can also tell this agent you are going to report him to the Insurance Commission or call the Insurance Commission and find out the protocol for a situation like this.

Sounds like desperation on the other agent's part.
