How do you find agencies for sale in your state?

I'm 46 and have been in the independent P&C game about 26 years. I just purchased my fathers agency and would like to look into acquiring another. I'm just curious where most people find independent agencies for sale? Do you spread the word through Territory Managers, visit agencies and mention it to the owner? I know there are websites and some want you to pay to look, are those worth it? Thanks!

I imagine they are mostly place for sale through brokers.

I ran a search for insurance agencies for sale in Georgia and came up with several:

But just like in Michigan, those listings are not Independent agencies, but almost all Farmers or Allstate agents looking to get out

Yeah a lot of captives. I have an Allstate Independent contract and thought I could buy an Allstate book but I never got a clear answer if they would allow it.
