How Hard to Start Out Independent?

When I was in college, almost 30 yrs ago, I sold a little for AL Williams (i know).

Anyway, this economy is forcing me to reinvent myself. I have owned a Cabinet -millwork business for 20+ yrs.

I am a good people person when it comes to sales. Let me tell you, a contractor can be a tough nut to crack, although you are selling him on a tangible product.
In the business there have been many times I cold called.

Anyway, I have chosen insurance, and particularly the senior market. This is because of the growth of this age group, and I believe my age, 52, will help me with credibility.

So, how difficult, or can I start as an independent agent?

:1rolleyes:

It depends on how hard you work. I would advise you to start out captive for 6 to 8 months get training then go indy. You will need money saved up to make it an easier transition. Also look up Frank Stansky and give him a call. He can help point you in the right directon
