How Heavily Does "Married" Weigh in Rates?

Assuming that one is shopping HO and Auto with a perferred carrier, how heavily does being married play into the rate? I get credit, inquiries, and specifics (ie driving record and type of home), but does Married change the rate or just discount it in some instances?

all other things being equal, a single person will always pay a higher rate than a married person.

call it what you want.... "changing the rate" or "discount" are just words. Bottom line is married people rate lower than single people.

How much lower? that varies from one carrier to the next. the easy way to find out is simply to play around with some unsold quotes you've ran.... change the marital statuses and see how much the price goes up or down.

Being married can definatly decrease insurance costs....But it can also decrease life expectancy while at the same time making the time living seem like it is forever.....

Lol:) awesome advice, I'll have to keep that in mind

My experience is that married has a bigger impact when you are younger and around mid-40's, has minimal impact.

Your mileage on running tests with your own carriers in your own area will vary.

You more than pay for any insurance discount on the back end during the divorce.

X2 on the above post. But you know what they say about how expensive the divorce is as it is worth it.
