How many leads?

How many leads can you effectively handle in a day?

Leads, not live people to talk to.

Speaking primarily about internet leads but could include DM or other forms of print or media DTC advertising.

5 leads? 10 leads? 30?

Much depends on how "automated" you are, how much information you gather in the initial phone call, etc.

At least one person on this forum told me he sends a quote, calls once, and that is it. No more follow up (or follow through).

Certainly that is one business model and it must work for him.

If I'm doing the calling, about 15. After that I want to throw my computer out the window after a month or two.

The follow-up calls get mentally exhausting after days turn into weeks and you have 50, 80, 150, 260 leads to follow up with.

Night calls are where I crash and burn. I really just don't enjoy making calls after 6pm however logic dictates that's the best time to reach people.

I find that leaving VM's is largely ineffective. Personal emails seem to be more effective however obviously calling them at times when they're actually available trumps everything.

It all depends on the lead source, and how consistent they are. I work mostly P&C leads, which are different from health leads.

I can manage 5-7 leads a day consistently. I should work 10, but it's hard to have the followup required day in and day out. If I just want some additional business, I can work up to 30 in a day, but only for a day or 2, and these won't have the appropriate followup.

I also get x-date lists, which I try to deal with 250 of those a week. These are almost a fully automated process though, with low contact, much different from internet leads.

My bigger problem is response time. I'm always amazed at how many people say they call 'within 30 seconds'. No way can I do that, I'm on the phone with calls piled up. If I can call within an hour, I'm doing well.

I agree with John that the evening calls are harder mentally than the day calls. Not sure why this is, but I'm worn out by that time.

It's not really the fact that I'm worn out after 6 - it's I have a wife and son and I'm not gonna be in my office calling leads from 6pm to 8pm. There's a quality of life issue.

#1, I look at it a bit differently. I log on to ReferenceUSA, through my library account, give myself 60 minutes, and make calls. I then spend another hour on quote generation that needs to be taken care of then. I also make follow up calls to those that have an interest. I then make calls to local facilities where I am booked to speak. I then spend some time working to promote the Job Seekers group I facilitate: The Decatur Career Network | Advancing Your Career Path One Meeting At A Time .

I then take a break and do either the crosswords, or I read, do some networking, and then get back to it for another hour, either late in the afternoon (if calling businesses) or after dinner (if calling families).

The numbers fluctuate from day to day. There are some days when I have meetings to go to, either at my office, or web based.

First I decide what I want to make for that month. Then I just put the leads in place and the rest takes care of itself. I just work the numbers backwards, makes life pretty systematic, which is what I am used to from being in the Miltary so long. You honestly have to work 8-10 shared leads a day if you want a decent income.

At 9 leads a day it is about $1000 a month in cost - credits = $720 a month if you are paying $7. (Five days a week).

How many deals a week, from this source? 2 or 3?

Out of the 45, 10 are credits? So that is closing 1 in 18.

Average commission? $400

10 deals a m 7 to 1 roi.

Numbers look about right? I don't have the time to work that many, I can't keep up with 3 a day.

Just wondering how the lead junkies math works? Am I close?

The big problem with the math here is:
10 deals * 400 a deal = $4000 a month
Subtract out leads, overhead, and other costs, it's not a great living (this varies somewhat by where you live).

At that, it's going to boil down to retention, and what your backend service income is.

It always amazes me how many "financial planners" won't touch health insurance and yet there isn't anything that will make a financial plan fall apart faster than a major medical claim.
