How To?

I was just curious if there was a way to "self-sponsor" yourself to get your series 6&63 licenses? I would obviously pay for them - however - some people told me that you can't do that because you need to have a "company sponsor you"! Is this correct or not? If not - how would I go about getting my series 6 and 63 licenses? Thanks for your time,

They would be quite correct. A Broker/Dealer has to sponsor you for the 6 and 63. There is one way around it, become your own Broker/Dealer. All I can say is, you better have some deep pockets, and you'll still have to convince another B/D to do business with you. As a B/D you'll need selling agreements with other B/Ds to sell their variable products, and you'll also have to use a B/D to execute your trades through.

Additionally, I believe you'll have to get a Series 24 to run a B/D, which I believe means you already have to have a Series 7.

So, your best bet... Find a B/D to sponsor you for your Series 6 and 63. If you can't find one that is willing to sponsor you, then it is time to ask yourself why? Assuming you are licensable for securities you should be able to find someone to sponsor you. If you are barred for being licensed, then it is a no go, period.

You need to find a sponsor period.
