I’m a Vision Insurance Carrier, How Do I Market?

If you are in SC, you absolutely have to call the Cason Group. They control a ton of business down there. Your best bet is to figure out what VSP, AIG and KCL pays them as a GA and double it. Chalk it up to the cost of acquisition.

Also, the local vision plan that does the best in one of my markets....just so happens to have floor seats for Basketball. I'm just saying, when there is not a lot of money on the table for a broker, that type of thing can make all the difference in the world.

Thanks for the names of the GAs, Dave and Melmunch. I would be happy to pay an override. I'm going to reach out to all of them to see what I need to do.

A few basic questions about GAs. If anyone out there can answer these, I would greatly appreciate it.

  • Do brokers that sell through GAs only sell what their GA offers them or can they go off and sell other products in addition to what they sell through their GA? If they can sell other products outside of their GA, could I just market directly to them and not worry about the GA?
  • I've heard that most GAs demand a 5% override. Is that pretty typical?
  • Are most GA overrides a fixed percentage or do they decrease over time?
Thanks a lot!
