Very few, if any, insurance commissioners have an insurance license. In fact, it may require that you surrender your license as receiving renewals and commissions could be considered a conflict of interest.

It's a political regulatory position, not one requiring a license.

I'm also amazed how many underwriters don't have a license. Some insurers see it as an E&O exposure to have their underwriters licensed LOL.

It can also increase your E&O exposure to receive professional designations like CIC or CPCU because they can prove you were an expert and should have known better if you make a mistake

The longer one is licensed and the way they hold themselves out to the public will increase one's standing in the event of a complaint or lawsuit.
