I Got an Offer to Start! Going to View the Contracts Tomorrow

I went to the "interview" today with American Health Underwriters, and got a call back to sign the contracts tomorrow, and start Thursday.

I'm very excited. I've been to a few "interviews/sales pitches" with a few other companies and didn't like the vibe, so I didn't answer the call when they called back. I get a much better feeling with this company, however.

This will be the 1st contract I have ever viewed. I'm hoping the more experienced of the ilk here can provide me with some insight.

What should I look for in the contract, that will let me know if its a good, bad, or decent contract?

What are some good questions I should ask prior to signing?

Ask about contract rates...what will you be paid on all the products you'll be selling.

Ask about assignment of commissions. I'm pretty sure it's built-into the contract with them, but it's not something that is generally recommended (but it's most often necessary when going captive).

Ask about training. Get a specific plan, hold them accountable to that plan. Get something on paper...not some BS off the top of the manager's head.

Ask about leads.

Ask how many agents that office has had in the last 12 months. Where are they now?

You'll likely be propositioned with management opportunities. This is generally not a good sign, but not always.

I only know of this outfit in passing (no direct experience), but their reputation really isn't that good. Have you been sure to do some research on them here and elsewhere?

Hope this helps... :)

Thanks for the response. My attempt to find info on this company did not yield much fruit. I figured no news is good news. This board and others have saved me from the likes of Liberty National, AA, and a few others.

I currently have a full-time job with benefits, an don't want to leave that for a less than solid opportunity.

1) Do you own your block of business, from day 1, in writing
2) What's your 1st year and renewal commission per carrier
3) How do releases work
4) Which carriers do they offer and how many carriers are in your state
5) Do they have a focus on the major carriers; Humana, Golden Rule, Cigna, or will you be pitching carriers your clients don't recognize
6) How to advances and chargebacks work? Interest on advances?

Everyone on this forum has given you very good and solid advice. Just make SURE you dot all your I's and cross all your Ts and make sure they do the same thing.
This is what makes this forum so great!!

Come on guys (or gals). You're responding to stuff that's 3 years old and obviously those involved are no longer "involved". There are better ways to pad your post totals you know......
