You find me one person in the United States that does not pay taxes and I'll find you a health insurance agent that knows little about tax law.

There are virtually no Americans that do not pay taxes.

That doesn't mean that all Americans pay the same taxes, but you'd be extremely hard pressed to find anyone in this entire country who hasn't paid any taxes in the last year, or even the last month.

The poor may not pay much (or anything) in income taxes, but they are paying sales taxes, they may be paying property taxes. If they're legally employed they are paying payroll taxes. And they are paying the corporate income taxes that are levied on the companies whose products they buy, as ultimately all corporate taxes are passed on to the consumer anyway.


The notion that there are somehow people outside the system receiving benefits but not paying taxes is nothing but a conservative canard with no basis in fact. And you seem like a relatively intelligent person, so you should know this already.

Of course, the whole tax conversation has to do with federal income tax, not state taxes, which I assume you knew already.

It would be interesting to know what % of income goes to all taxes:

Federal 25% marginal (obviously not all at 25%)
State 7%
FICA 15.3%
Property Taxes
State Sales Tax 7%
DMV Fees
All the other taxes buried in bills too plentiful to name them all (phone bill, health insurance state risk pool tax, garabage bill, ect)

I would be really curious as to what it all adds up to. Certainly over 50% of every dollar I earn.

There is no way politicians want you to know how much you 'actually' pay in taxes. They would never convince a sane person that taxes are to low if it was all added up.

Hello, anyone reading between the lines or listening to the news. They found him by tracking Osama's "courier" for 4 years. Bush started the tracking, Obama (1 letter difference) was the beneficiary. It's not hard to say "go", once the intelligence came in

It's purely symbolic. Does it make everyone feel warm and fuzzy? Sure. Does it do anything at all to make the world safer? Nope.
