Today, President Obama said that health insurers nationwide CAN allow existing Individual Policy Owners to "Keep Their Plans", if the health insurers want to allow it, and if the state's Department of Insurance will allow it.

From Crains, here is the latest on where Blue Cross of Illinois and the Illinois Department of Insurance stand.

Called the Dept of Insurance in IL just now. I was told by a real person to leave a message and someone would get back to me. I was also told the person I have been speaking to is out of the office until the 18th. If I know something befoer you do Ill post it here.

This is the second time during open enrollment I have called the DOI and been told someone is out, or on vacation. REALLY, you don't get to take time off during this time if you work for the DOI. None, you work 12 hour days because that is what's necessary. No accountability in government at all. That's a retail store owner taking off NOV 25 to Dec 10th. RIDICULOUS

Big no surprise. 6 years ago I had to drive from Naperville to Springfield because the simpletons who work there didn't know if they had all my info to renew my licence. So I drove there to make sure everything was correct and they had everything.

Illinois Department of Insurance sent out a notice on 5/2/2014 granting insurers the option to extend pre2014 individual and small group health plans through 2015.

Only plans that renew between 1/1/2015 and 10/1/2015 may be extended an additional year. Those that renew this year aren't eligible?

If companies decide NOT to allow the extension, they have to let the DOI know by 5/9/2014. (Lots of lead time...)

Here's a notice from the IL Dept of Insurance to all health insurers. I think it's saying that plans can be extended another year, but the timelines look confusing. Also, there's reference to the government reclassifying some large group plans as small group plans on January 1, 2016.
