Hey Everyone,
I want to say thank you to all that have put little nuggets here on the board . I have found this to be helpful in my decision making process.
I am in the process of kicking the tires of becoming an insurance agent. I have been considering the industry for a couple of years. I am presently in the wireless industry and do business sales. I love using solution based selling. I have about 20 years of sales exp in various industrial sales companies.
I have set a target of about 120 days or having 8-10 months expenses whichever comes first . Our company is in the middle of a merger and while my position appears to be safe for now I don't want to be caught with no game plan should that status change.
You may ask why ins. I say why not! lol Actually I have a few reasons for wanting to become an agent.
First, I see the opportunity to be able to serve and help folks with a product or service that will actually help and protect them and their families.
Second, I have been narrowing down to 3 verticals that I would feel proud to be part of and insurance has slowly been rising to the top.
I have no illusion that this is an easy career. Presently we are under a quota system....so I know you must produce or starve. One thing I don't like is we get nothing for renewals...they forgot that part in the recruiting process.
I have been talking to friends that are agents...both captive and independent, reading post here, and coming up with a game plan.
I want to have a game plan should I need to make a jump or what I am doing is coming up with a plan because I see insurance sales as what I want to invest my time, money and life.
I know that I love sales and I know I want to be involved with something that actually helps people.
Thank you again,
Bob
