I'm New from GA

Hey Everyone,

I want to say thank you to all that have put little nuggets here on the board . I have found this to be helpful in my decision making process.

I am in the process of kicking the tires of becoming an insurance agent. I have been considering the industry for a couple of years. I am presently in the wireless industry and do business sales. I love using solution based selling. I have about 20 years of sales exp in various industrial sales companies.

I have set a target of about 120 days or having 8-10 months expenses whichever comes first . Our company is in the middle of a merger and while my position appears to be safe for now I don't want to be caught with no game plan should that status change.

You may ask why ins. I say why not! lol Actually I have a few reasons for wanting to become an agent.

First, I see the opportunity to be able to serve and help folks with a product or service that will actually help and protect them and their families.

Second, I have been narrowing down to 3 verticals that I would feel proud to be part of and insurance has slowly been rising to the top.

I have no illusion that this is an easy career. Presently we are under a quota system....so I know you must produce or starve. One thing I don't like is we get nothing for renewals...they forgot that part in the recruiting process.

I have been talking to friends that are agents...both captive and independent, reading post here, and coming up with a game plan.

I want to have a game plan should I need to make a jump or what I am doing is coming up with a plan because I see insurance sales as what I want to invest my time, money and life.

I know that I love sales and I know I want to be involved with something that actually helps people.

Thank you again,
Bob

I look forward to being a part of the community

Hi Bob and welcome....I'm new here as well, from Ga, and will be taking my H/L exam next tuesday. I also come from a 10 year background in wireless, being a masteragent for Sprint/Nextel, I grew my business from 1 to 17 brick and mortar stores throughout Ga and Al. Sounds like your on the direct side but you probably know its been terrible for the indirects this past year. Ultimately in the end, I downsized my business until there was no business... I know it was the right move as many of us in the business believe that there was a concerted effort to slowly weed out their indirects as we were costing them so much money in the way of residuals, commissions, etc. After building 60% of the base for them they were looking for ways to hose us (especially Sprint).

Enough of that....good luck and stick with this board...a wealth of knowledge here.

Welcome! Do your homework and you will do well. Study, study this forum there is a lot of useful information for someone just starting out. Don't sign on with anything until you check it out here. I also find useful information elsewhere as well.

It is always good to see other people from GA on here. Welcome to the forum, we are glad to have you on here.
