I would be curious to know what percentage of our citizens work for the government, be it federal, state, or local? Then, after you have that number, what % of private jobs are propped up by government contracts?
Given how many people I know that work for the government, non-profits that receive government subsidies, and small business clients that get most of their revenue through government contracts, I would guess the % would be mind blowing. It would also be interesting to see the progression by decade.
If only 40% of the population contributes more than they get back in taxes, I wonder how many of that remaining 40% work for the government?
