Today i filled out my first auto quote as an agent for a 06 hyundai sedan and came about $1,600 with kingsway and $1,300 with travelers using insurance noodle. It was 100/300 BI and UM 5O PD, 500 COLL 500 COMP. Is that normal?

Re: I'm Shocked!

Try Mercury or Safeco. I don't write much auto, mostly because I am lazy but when I try I can't beat the insureds rate 3 out 4 times. Allstate, Statefarm and Geico seem more competitive in Pinellas and Hillsborough county

What do you mean 'is that normal'? The rates? Well, far to many variables to know if that is normal. If you are talking about the difference in rates, then yes, very normal for there to be a large variation between carriers.

the problem you'll run into is there is no 'normal', no carrier that is always the least expensive, no carrier that will always win. Variations such as multi-car, auto/home, various professional/affinity discounts, credit scores (some states), driving records, etc all play into it. Carriers have various appetites. Get used to running lots of quotes.

Over time, you learn to assess the risk first, then quote the appropriate carriers. quoters that can quote multiple carriers at once are helpful, till you get to the end and need to figure out whether a risk is acceptable to a carrier or not....

Kingsway is generally high risk. They are also B- rated. Travelers is a very good company. Rates are high on both but if noodle quoted with Kingsway it had some issues.

Depends on driving record, prior insurance and driver age. I write most of mine with Safeco as they seem to be the most competitive program that I have.
