I want to focus on 2 markets: RVs and auto for seniors. I am researching the best way to get these contracts. If I wanted to contract with Safeco, Foremost, and Progressive, would I be able to contract directly or would I need to go wholesaler? Which wholesaler would you recommend and are their other carriers to consider for an independent in these lines? It is very important that I am able to write in most states.

Thank you.

For the most part, you'll probably need to work with a wholesaler, especially initially.

Writing in most states will be next to impossible for most carriers. You will be required to inspect the risk that you are covering. It's hard to say you saw the car when it's 3000 miles away. Some carriers will permit binding without inspection, but, very few. Most that do this are direct writers.

Hartford would be a good choice, especially since they are opening up the AARP program to independants if you can meet their criteria.
