Individual Vision Plan

I am working with a couple and one has asked for an individual vision plan. The husband is on Medicare and is getting a supplement and the wife is getting a dental plan (she isn't yet on Medicare and is not covered under any group policies).

Any recommendations on vision plans for individuals? I found VSP through a Google search, it looks okay. I've never even been asked for an individual vision plan and was hoping someone with experience could give me a recommendation.

I researched this for months and realized there were very little options for individuals and vision. What you want to do is take the total premium and multiply it by 12 months to see what the cost is. Then take the contact allowance/glasses and add the benefit on the yearly exam( copay minus actual cost $90 or so). If the cost of the plan exceeds the benefit it isn't worth it. You also have to make sure their eye doctor accepts it. If it's eyemed they have to use a retail location. Humana One uses Eyemed and it isn't bad. VSP is offered on the Choice network which is a level lower than group. Morgan White Group offers it so you can earn a commission. Just crunch some numbers and see if it makes sense. If someone doesn't wear contacts or glasses I always tell them to pay cash. It's sometimes good for those that don't save money for their yearly exam. Both Humana One and MWG offer online submission so you can send them to your link to sign up.

It's good for families with a lot of kids who need glasses. For others, the annual premium is hardly worth the expected benefits. If a person has an HSA, they can use tax-deductible dollars to fund their vision expenses and come out better than buying an individual/family vision plan.
