How hard is it for someone with no experience to start out selling health insurance? I originally had interest in starting out this way but got sidetracked interviewing with Life Insurance companies. I have an interview today with Western Southern and have already interviewed with American General. How do I go about finding a job selling health insurance with good training and a training salary like American General has? I have tried to find local agencies in the Pittsburgh area but most of my searches just find P&C agencies. Anybody know of good agencies in the Pittsburgh area? Seems like most of the guys in this forum selling Health insurance are independent which sounds like the way to go but with no experience I would be better off getting some good training first. Is this something I could do part time until I get up and running?

Hi,
I would say you can be very successful right away. Other people have, why not you? It comes down to training and leads and support, of course, you have to use the hammer to build the house but it's very possible.

Even though people will disagree, especially here about training, it's critical to get off to a good start to avoid discouragement.

Do well!!
:)

It is rare for a health agency to offer a salary, unless maybe you are aligned with a supp carrier like AFLAC.

Starting out on your own, independent, is not something I would recommend.

Try to find an agency who is willing to train you on a captive basis and give it a shot. You never know what will happen.
