Insurance Agents Lose Job Security with Obamacare Ruling

Then I guess they need to adjust with the times....

I'm a face-to-face agent and don't regret it one bit. The ability to be out working with people is a big reason why I left the corporate cubicle in 1986. There's so much more than just health insurance out here.

You also cross-sell, which is great, too. I am in a little box called "health insurance". I always say I do indy over the phone, group is 50-50 and Med Supp is all face to face.

If its working for you, that's all that matters

Well, as I get older, I'll have to adjust to become more of a headset/computer guy. My agency owner is 75. Says he's starting to get sick of ripping-and-running. I'm a tad over 50. The way ALL insurance companies keep trimming and/or eliminated commissions on the back-end, retirement at age 60 is now a pipe-dream.

When I first glanced at the title of this thread, the first thought I had was when did agents EVER have job security 25+ years of this crap and it is still the same. There is no job security in this profession, obamacare is just the most recent attempt to get rid of us.

It will get rid of some of us, but others will figure it out. Just as it's been all this time prior to.

Honestly, how has life changed? (Besides MLR and commissions!)

Its all about how many people you can get in front of. Some people use an agent. Some people go direct. Some people use you. Some people may use a different agent. Or a navigator. Everyone relax. Follow your marketing plan, adjust it when you aren't getting in front of enough people. Sell some policies. Its going to be OK. The apocalypse isn't here....

How right you both are. The biggest skill needed in this industry is the ability to adapt. Our industry is highly regulated, and you must be able to pivot on a dime whenever the rules change.
