Insurance is Low-balling on Quote - Help

We all tend to read these type of statements in our own way, with many details being left to the imagination.

After all, its more fun to make up the missing parts.

Yes, I had a client who had their policy lapse 3 months ago call today to reinstate it. They had an accident yesterday and needed coverage.

Gotta love those stories where things don't work out as planned.

1. Are you just trying to cash settle or are you actually want the car repaired?

2. If you actually want the car repaired, is there a problem with taking it to one of the shops on their direct repair program?

It may not be this way across the country, but at the company I work for, we actually pay out more when a person chooses to use one of our direct repair facilities. Sending an adjuster out in person and having the car repaired elsewhere in the market actually saves us money. The direct repair facilities are for customer convenience.

If you do choose to take it to a place that is not on their program, I doubt you are required to pay any additional amount. Supplements are frequent. You would only be responsible for any amount that is above and beyond what is competitive in the market.

josh, I don't disagree with you at all, it's just a matter of how you view the response.

If it is as you said (which it would be 99.9% of the time) then there would be no reason to post here as problem solved. Repairs as a normal course of business.

I totally understand where you're coming from.

However, that said, there are certain auto carriers that I know when at fault, do make it as hard as possible. They aren't nice people, they stall, they delay payout right up to the courthouse steps, they never enter the courtroom.

The unfortunate thing is the poster did not post who they were dealing with or as much detail.

All the OIC will do is send a letter of inquiry to hear both sides. If someone screwed up at the carrier, it brings it to the attention of someone who will fix it.

I've had to do this a couple times in my life and suddenly you do have a voice and within 24 hours, problem solved.

No worries no offense taken, just slightly different views about a subject probably based on experiences.

For me, I just have found the OIC questions to the carrier provides instant clarification...

You nailed it.

If that's how it worked in every state I would see the attraction. Most of my experience (fortunately not from being on the wrong end) with dealing with OIC/DOI/DFS/whatever they call themselves in the respective state, is much different. You can file a complaint with the NY DFS and not hear anything back for months and once the slow moving wheels of justice start, they don't leave it at a simple letter to each and ask a few questions, it gets ugly and fast.
