Insuring Through Two Agencies

Is it possible to broker your commercial business with one agency and your personal lines with another? An agency just went captive with personal lines and I want to stay independent so trying to do commercial with the former agency and new personal lines with a different agency.

Is it possible to broker your commercial business with one agency and your personal lines with another? An agency just went captive with personal lines and I want to stay independent so trying to do commercial with the former agency and new personal lines with a different agency.

You could do this if you had an indy commercial and an indy personal lines. However, captive companies do not allow anyone who is contracted with them to be contracted with other carriers without their authorization (which they do not give).

If you are submitting business to a captive and getting commission then you have to be captive with that company.
