Interview with Travelers Tomorrow

What type of position are you looking for from Travelers? Are you an independent agent or work for the company side?

So, gang. Here was my experience with the interview.

After two fairly exhaustive interviews with Travelers HR, management, and sales, I was informed a decision would be made in two weeks and that the starting date would not be until November 10th. Keep in mind, that was back in September.

I started looking around some more, as I felt that was a bit sketchy to wait so long for an answer. I'm glad I did. Travelers never called or e-mailed me with any kind of notification one way or the other. I took an offer from a State Farm agent with years of experience in the industry and about 20 years with State Farm. I'm paid less on the front and have less earning potential from this than I would have had from the Travelers offer, but I'm pretty happy with my decision overall. A bird in the hand is better than two in the bush.

Oh, it's been five weeks. I haven't heard ANYTHING from Travelers. I called and left messages, never was able to be connected to anyone I had previously spoken to. No one returned my calls. I waited several weeks. I'm pretty sure they went through the whole process and probably didn't hire a soul. But I wouldn't know because I never was rejected.

Anyway, I figure being a lacky, working up quotes, and learning the business of insurance from this agent is worth more than the money I probably would have earned at Travelers anyway. I think I have a better opportunity, and my agent is already bragging to her management team about my work ethic and positive attitude. Whether I continue with State Farm or not is down the road. For now, I'm learning and growing. That's all I could probably ask for at this point.

I would be surprised if you don't hear from them at some point. They are a huge corporation and the wheels of companies like that can sometimes turn real slow. Also you may have gotten caught in a response to what is going on in the economy. Who knows, they may have a temporary hiring moratorium in place. You never know what you have gotten caught up in. At one point in time I was about to be hired by Ralston-Purina and then lost out because they shut down operations in New England and transferred outside sales personnel to my region.
