Is It Possible to Get Started As an Indy?

I'm fairly new to the insurance industry. I was an agent intern with State Farm b4 realizing things didn't add up. Since then I've owned my own business in another industry and am now selling that business. Now I need a new career direction and insurance & financial services is the path that I want to take.

With only 1 year experience in the industry is it possible to get started as an independent by contracting through GA or will they stay away from me because of inexperience? Another option would be partering with one or two other agents that have more experience to form an agency. Any advice on companies that will help me get started?

It seems as though Health Choice One is someone that I should contact for Life & Health. Who would be good for P&C?

OK, then where do you suggest I start? Thanks.

Hook up with an FMO that will actually train you on how to prospect, present over the phone, close and naturally an education on the products you offer.

It seems like Frank Statsny is the go to guy for Medicare, also I don't know if he's taking on new agents but Rob Liano has a big emphasis on sales training so you might want to check him out and Mark Rosenthal and others on the board can help with Life training.

It's absolutely possible to start as an independent agent; that's the way I did it, and if I had to do it all over again it's exactly what I'd do a second time.

With the wealth of training and support resources available to agents nowadays, it's even more feasible.

Jacqueline likes to go shopping. :D I am definitely taking on new agents, training them and offering the best contracts available.
