Is SF Good on Commercial P&C?

I ask because I have a prospect that is a business sign manufacturer with installation, has over 30 employees, over $4m in revenue, and a 40k+ sq. ft. facility and SF has it on some sort of BOP form for a silly low premium. It doesn't make good sense to me. What do you guys say?

I say go out to his business, take a look at his current policy, write all important info about his current policy down, bring it back to your office and work your magic. Sounds like he doesn't have enough BPP coverage or he's blowing smoke up your ass to get you to give him a super small premium. Either way, you should see his policy for yourself.

Now, I'm not a State Farm guy, but this sounds like the type of place that State Farm would be super competitive with. As with any type of commercial policy, you'll have to make sure it actually covers the business, not just the office space!!!!

SF in Texas was very poor in commercial rates...they want small business not anything bigger..If i had to guess $500k revenue and below? SF had its usual "hot list" of top businesses being written and at the top were always nail salon's and if memory serves me correctly doctor offices.

out of the 18k agents If I had to venture a guess maybe a 100 of them throughout the country use their agency to focus on commercial business and the ones that do are mostly going after the commercial auto/fleet policies.

Now that I am independant I am happy to see that My PL markets are competitive with SF but my commercial markets really knock the socks compared to SF.

CL policies are always tricky, how do you know if the other agent covered everything correctly, or if they were a lazy POS who didnt even visit the business to check it out?

YOU have to do what YOU feel is right and design a policy that the client NEEDS and then show them the differences...

Now there is always the chance, you dont have a prayer in a quote, so dont dwell on it and move on....

Agreed! Well said, RBA!

I would almost guarantee that they have premise only liability coverage. The agent that wrote this looked the other way! No other way SF would place this risk via BOP.

Thanks all.

I agree Tigerhoo. I also agree with others and RBA that this is a lost cause and they just want to gut-check their SF buddy. They're trying too hard to keep me past arm's length so I'll either just totally walk away or read them the riot-act saying I won't lift a finger unless you let me come by to see your current policies, agree to not show your SF guy my numbers, and if I reasonably beat, in price and coverage, SF that you'll give me your business.

Thanks again,
WT

So yesterday!! Go to Wal-Mart, get a handheld scanner for $79 and scan his policy on the spot. The heck with writing it all down. Take the scanner, plug it into your computer via USB cord, or use the storage card and print the policy out at your office.
