Is This a Good Starting Position in Insurance Sales?

Thanks again for all the insight, I'm going to start my ExamFX this week. Had the phone interview with Asurea, and so far they seem like my best bet. Any opinions on them?

Since you've been out of college 5 years, that means I'm old enough to be your mother. (I'm 52 and have been an independent health agent for 31 years). So, here's my advice, Son. Listen to what healthagent said and join those associations. You'll get fine training for free, or very near to free. Take the advice of everyone who's posted so far - they are CORRECT, and they have no reason to lead you astray. Do as much homework as you can while you're still making income from your current job, or another source. It's hard to get started in this business. Pick your associations well. Look for integrity. Don't allow anyone to convince you to sell trash policies. Continue to ask questions on this forum until you select the right company, good products, and the correct commission split. The advice you receive here is solid advice. You are actually a "competitor" to every person here, but we give away advice for free because we're not afraid of competition, and we enjoy seeing a smart, honest agent succeed and build a solid book of business. Good luck!

No one will be looking out for your success, it will be 100% on you no matter where you start. Most career shops are mushroom factories, they pile a bunch of **** on top of you and see what pops up.

If you are new to sales, this will be tough no matter where you start. In that case, a career shop will at least give you a track to run on. Once you learn it, leave.

If you are experienced in outside sales, I would take the advice above and skip the career shop. Then soak as up as much as possible from outside sources. However, 90% of advice from the outside sources is meant to line their pockets, not your clients best interests. So, be skeptical and ask questions.
