2003 LTC policy, 90 day elimination period...do these types of policies normally cover hospice care? General question...do they still require 90 day elimination as this person probably will not make it to 90 days? thanks

If eligibility is met, hospice care is covered with all LTC policies. However, Medicare & Major Medical insurance also covers hospice. Hospice can be provided in a facility or at home.

When applying for coverage, one of the options is an Elimination Period. Choices are usually 30, 60, 90, 180 or 365 days. This is the time that the policyholder would be responsible for before the LTC policy kicks in. Just like a deductible.

Hancock had an option of a 0-day Elimination Period for Home Care. If care was provided for at home, there is no elimination period and payment would start on day 1.

You would have to look at the policy schedule in order to see how long the elimination period was.

some of the older jh policies waived the elimination period for hospice care.

Remember, if it is a TQ policy, the trigger is ADL loss that is anticipated to last at least 90 days.
