Lead Debt-How long can I be billed

I was in an IMO that had a 20 lead per week for 600.00. When canceled they had 20 leads in house for the next week.
I had 1900 in the account to cover any leads that came in after I canceled.
A few weeks later that 1900.00 was spent on leads coming in from the previous mail sent out.

After a few more weeks I receive a call saying I own another 1900 because more leads kept on coming in. When I asked to see when the cards were mailed out from the vendor, I was told they had a spreadsheet-. Well spreadsheets can be filled out and someone can put any date. It would happen weekly when I would login to the CRM they provided. I asked multiple times to get either a copy of the cards showing when they were mailed out or something that would in some way satisfy that they had not just forgotten to stop the mail.
(I truly believe they did not stop the mail)

Now several months later I receive a letter from a collection agency attempting to collect the debt from my old upline. I feel bad for him but he is just as much at fault of the IMO they both refused any help other than to say I just needed to pay it.

I hate to give money to attorneys but that looks like my only option. Anyone have some advice or an attorney that would like to sue an IMO (they lost several cases in the last 3 years between treating 1099 agents as employees and for several other issues).

When you cancelled, did you get an email notification of the cancellation? Do you still have it?

Yes, but they are saying that I still owe them for the mail that continued to come in. Which I was prepared to pay for a few weeks, not a few months. Ironically they could not even fill a 20 a week lead order most weeks. When I cancel the leads came flowing in.

Read any contract you have but I would look at the cancellation date on the email and tell them to honor that date if the leads had not been sent to you as of that date

I paid for them for what came in for 4 weeks after the request. I guess they are going to make me hire an attorney which will be more money out of my pocket. NEVER going to get on a lead program with any of these IMOs.

You are most likely on the hook for them :(

I had a similar experience and blew through $4500.

A reputable collection agency will have normally verified that you owe the debt etc before taking it on.

A letter from an attorney may halt this but a retainer is likely to be more than what you owe :(

If you have to pay for the leads you should at least get them.
