Look Ma, No Hands

I have a simple suggestion that helped me out tremendously in online sales.

You see, I type with two fingers, kind of like as if I was playing the drums, banging away with two sticks, instead it’s my two index fingers on the non musical keyboard of a computer.

So this caused a bit of stumbling block for me when I was on the phone, speaking with a client and trying to input information to run quotes accurately.

So I decided to do what did on stage.

On stage I use a wireless headset microphone, so that I can play the drums and still sing or speak. Being a drummer it was a necessity.

It was also a necessity in sales, for me.

First I bought a wired headset for my voip through the laptop, so my hands were free. Then I eventually got a wireless telephone headset connected through the Bluetooth option on my laptop.

I was free, hands free!!!!!

This totally opened my sales up to where I could ask zip code, age, etc and actually type it in, not call people back because I couldn’t multi-task or have dead space on the phone while they heard me sssslllloooowwwwllllyyyy type away on the keyboard, which must have sounded like a hamster on downers trying to gnaw away at some wood!!

So below are some suggestions for you to check out, both under $50.

I hope this little insight helps, it really helped me.

For laptop (wired)

Logitech Premium Notebook Headset

For Wireless (via Bluetooth)

Plantronics Voyager 510 Bluetooth Headset [Retail Packaged]

I've been rocking a headset for a few years - don't know how anyone could live without it.

I thought you were going someplace else, though... ditching the keyboard and using speech recognition software. I broke four bones in my right hand a few years ago and couldn't type for several months (snowboarded off a cliff, landed upside down, it wasn't pretty). Rather than spend the time watching soaps, I got a copy of Dragon Naturally Speaking and learned to dictate everything into my computer. Took a little getting used to but works surprisingly well.

I've had a cordless phone with a headset for years. It allows me to occasionally do laundry while servicing clients.

I've been asked and have answered the same questions day in and day out for the last several years. Sorting the clothes takes up more brain space than selling a policy at this stage of the game. When I'm done I just mute the phone while the client is talking, start the machine and walk away from it so that I can "unmute" before it's my turn to talk.

:laugh:I may be an underwear agent, but I like my undies to be clean.

I only use my wireless headset when I'm playing Nerf basketball. I have had a rim in my office for 28 years.

Currently, three of us have our own "home courts" in our offices. We have a plaque that the current champ can proudly display.

We play about three games each day.

I hate using anything that is sitting on my head (messes up the doo!) and I can't really stand anything attached to my ear. Just doesn't feel natural.

I will however, ask a client if I can put them on speaker and then verify if the quality is acceptable.

Bravo on the Nerf purchase. Sometimes you just need to take a minute break from things.

But remember to use a spongy ball, and not the rubber ball (too heavy) that they sometimes give you.

I have bee using a two eared headset for a few years and love it.
