Looking for Health Agent in VA for Split

I'm in VA, but a 50% split on health these days doesn't leave much, especially at the rates in VA. Unless they're in perfect health with slam dunk underwriting, not worth the time and to have to send out a check every month....

Mike is actually my dad, I'm David. They could probably get an Anthem HSA with $6k deductible for around $350-500/month depending on health, 15% comp. I'd say 75/25 would be fair if you want me to give them a call. We usually give 75/25 splits for cases under $4k in comp and 50/50 on cases over $4k.

I know my prospect is paying about $400 to Humana now (late 50s, husband and wife) for a $10K HSA. They are looking for a lower deduct (and obviously a higher premium.) Let's say the premium goes up to $600 a month and that the agent gets 15% FYC, well that's $1080 of comp. Somehow I think that is worth more than a $25 bottle of wine, but that's just me.

YMMV

FWIW, it's all talk until the prospect takes it. If it comes in at $1k of comp, I don't think 50/50 is fair. If this was a larger group policy and there was $100k in premium, then I think that'd be a different story, but honestly I think even 25% would be generous because of the amount of work and liability that can come from an individual plan like this. I don't think the type of agent that would do this at a 50/50 split is the type of agent I'd want to work with my name attached to it, JMO.

A short explanation that nobody requested.

As for me, I run my business differently than how others run theirs in that I'm happy to give a split and happy to get one. I'm also happy to just give biz away... as I do with Dave020 and as I did twice with someone else here, one of which he wrote for about $500 of comp.

It's okay. You can mention for the 50th time that you gave me one referral that earned me a $500 commission. Seems that this is still a big deal to you. Here's what I'm going to do. I'm going to make a $250 contribtution to Advocates for Self Government in your name. Then we're even. Unless you want me to send you a check instead.

I have received many referrals but not as many as I have given out. Never has anyone asked nor received a split.

If I can't write a piece of business, I earn a zero commission. If I can help somone by referring it, then I do.

But you asked what split was fair. I answered it and you didn't like the answer.

What a shock!

Since Sam doesn't want me to get into personal attacks, I'm done with this thread. As usual, the last word (or 1,000) are yours.
