Looking to Replace Americo

Up through the end of last year I used Americo as my primary carrier. I never had too many problems with them until about a year ago and something changed up there and I started getting inconsistent underwriting decisions. Since January, I've mainly been using them for Smokers. But, I've finally decided I want to find another carrier to use for smokers. I ran some quotes over the weekend and it looks like Colorado Bankers Life has comparable rates for smokers. I don't know anything about them at all. Just wanted to see if anyone has had any experience with them. I don't want to replace one frustrating situation for another.

Thanks

Security National has smoker rates close to Americo. Seems like a good company with experience. I just contracted recently, so not familiar with UW.

I have written SNL for over 3 years and their underwriting has been consistent throughout. They are also easy to reach on the phone.

That's Right. Smokers in NC are like the need for Chew in Arkansas. It's in the Blood...Mind the pun.

Lafayette Life and Assurity have good smoker rates also.

How's Assurity's underwriting? I tried writing their Non Med 350 term for Mortgage Protection and it was a mess!

Assurity is a mess when it comes to FE. They claim it is tier 4 UW like a FE policy but it surely isn't.

The only thing I would do with Assurity is there competitive term products for smokers. You simply can't beat the rates.

Mark Rosenthal or "Mark" on the forum would know that answer pretty well. I know their rates but do not write Assurity.

I write mostly Americo for Smokers and Lafayette Life most any healthy person, UW with Lafayette is tighter than most FE and with that you get the best rates for NS and Smk.

Do not use assurity for final expense. They will, call the applicant and do a phi and ask them questions for about an hour. They are not the right path to take for this market

I second that. If you really want to make your client upset put them on the phone with Assurity. They pick these poor folks to pieces. Its a shame really because Assurity is a great company just not for FE.
