Have a husband/wife duo that wants to apply for LTC coverage. Wife is in great health, husband had back surgery a while ago and takes Vicadin as needed (works out to almost every other day, at least three times per week). So far, Genworth, Hancock, and Pru all say no. I'm guessing this is a lost cause for the husband, but thought I would throw a Hail Mary out to the forum to see if anyone has any suggestions?

Just a thought, Maybe as a back up for him Lincoln's Money Guard. Maybe fits their table shave.

How often has "as needed" for the Vicodin been since the surgery?

Thanks!

Unfortunately, very little in liquid assets. Retirement will come from the buy-out of his business, but it will be paid in installments over 20 years.

At least three times per week to every other day. That's been the deal breaker with Genworth & Hancock. They would consider the risk, but not with Vicodin being taken that often.

I might be able to help on this one if you want to send me an e-mail.

Thanks!

There are "A rated" LTC insurers that can insure someone who takes narcotic pain meds on an "as needed" basis.

It depends upon which narcotic is used, the dosage, the frequency, and also the medical condition for which the medication is prescribed.
