When Medicare is secondary, obviously the group pays first. If the group company pays an amount equal to or greater than what Medicare would have paid if Medicare was primary then Medicare will pay nothing. Medicare will only pay up to the amount that they would have approved.

In my case (admittedly rare), my group insurance is secondary, and after my Medicare Advantage plan pays its share, my co-pays are then paid by my retiree plan... subject to deductible and co-insurance.

I mentioned this in another thread... but just to make it known that all supplemental insurance is not the same. The Standard Med Sups do work differently from Medicare Supplement Retiree Group policies. Agents need to pay attention to what the client reports and not assume either party has a corner on the "complete" story.
