MA Renewal Help

I have contracted with an MGA and my commissions are assigned there, so I get paid from the MGA. I want to go on my own, but want to know if I can keep my renewals from my MA clients as they do not go directly to me. Is it possible to get my renewals assigned directly to me if I go on my own? Or do I lose it if I leave the MGA and contract elsewhere? What if I stayed with the same FMO but different MGA?

It's going to depend on the carrier too. Are you commissions assigned?

This is for Humana and some others, but mostly concerned with Humana. Is it up to the MGA or FMO? I'm looked briefly over the contract, but figured if someone knew, they could confirm it while I study the contract.

Read over the contract and still can't make too much sense of it. I might have assigned the commissions to the agency, but can't I just assign it back to myself if I leave? I have an GPA contract which is the same contract that the agency filled out and signed as well.

Would normally have to have the person the commission was assigned too sign to give it up.

Assigning commissions to an agency is never a good idea, typically they are the agent of record not you. i would be shocked if you see any $$$$$ when leave.

Some lessons are more expensive then others.

Also you may be forced to stop writing business with the companies you are signed up with now for 6 months if your FMO does not give you a signed release. I had to go out and find different MA plans to offer during my waiting period.

If you are under the same FMO in most cases it is up to them to make the decision....the MGA does not have a say in the switching of hierarchy....that being said if they want a good relationship they will usually consult the MGA on decision. That is also assuming that the contract is assigning FMO commissions(usually the case) and they just used a hierarchy list in the contract.
